OLR's John Paul II Youth Group has gotten of to a great start this year! We have a large group of new members and as well as a good return from the upper grades.

We just had our election of officers for the 2006-2007 and they are Beth Bennett, President, Emily Herr, Vice President, Tin Nguyen/Lennon Murphy, Secretaries, Daniel Herr, Treasurer, Ahlam Armaly/Caryn Cortez, Historians, and Ameer Armaly/Byron Bennett, Chaplains. Congratulations to all!

In October we participated in the annual United Minstries Walk for the Homeless. We had 15 people walk 4 miles and we raised over $500.00! We ate a ton of spagetti and meatballs afterwards. Thanks to the Bennetts – our chefs!

Our retreat at Look-Up Lodge in Traveler's Rest was an amazing experience. Thanks to Father Dac for his inspiration and for celebrating Mass with us!

The JP II Youth Band is forming. We have 7 guitar players so far and need a piano player and singers. We will be burning a CD of our first song "Mary Did You Know" later in the year.

This year, the annual State Diocese Catholic High School Youth Conference is scheduled for March 9-11, 2007, at White Oak Conference Center near Columbia, SC. The conference is spiritually enriching as well as great fun! Presenters this year are Doug Brummel (commedian and storyteller), Janell (world-renowned recording artist), Chris Padgett (songwriter/singer in Scarecrow and Tinman) and the Wannabe Stephen music group. There will also be a variety of sports activities available to help us blow off a little steam! The conference ends with Mass on Sunday morning celebrated by Bishop Baker. Please plan to attend! You will be glad you did!
