Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The final way we grow together as a community is by learning more about our faith. What we believe together affects how we live together
Many Catholics have not had any real instruction in the faith since their confirmation classes. How can we expect to grow in our faith if we are not learning more and more about the faith? As we do learn more about the faith our love for God deepens and we draw together more as a community.
Catholic Basics meets every Wednesday evening. This class doubles as a refresher course for Catholics as well as a training course for those who wish to come into full communion with the church. Everyone is welcome to join us as in this second semester we consider the sacraments of the church.
At Our Lady of the Rosary we also sponsor special events. We have had special nationally known speakers on the topic of Christian healing. Last month we hosted a day conference on English Catholicism. In the summer we hope to have a special day conference on apologetics and conversion. Have you attended any of these sessions?
This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. During Lent we will have a special video based course called A Biblical Walk Through the Mass which will deepen our knowledge and awareness of the Mass. This will be shown in the parish center on Sunday mornings at 10:30. More information about this is in the bulletin
These are perfect opportunities not only to learn more about your faith, but also to get to know fellow parishioners. These teaching times are also ideal opportunities to invite others to Our Lady of the Rosary. Evangelism combines with teaching so that we can help spread the good news of the Catholic faith
You can learn more about your faith in many other ways. A visit to St. Anthony’s bookstore near Haywood Mall will provide you with materials to learn more about the faith; listening to Catholic radio and television will inspire and inform you. Using the internet to follow the tweets and blogs of famous Catholic teachers will open your mind and heart. Using the websites of Catholic journals, papers, the Vatican and more can all take you more deeply into your faith.
Someone has called the American Catholic Church the Sleeping Beauty of religions. What if we all woke up and took our faith seriously and learned as much about it and lived it as authentically as possible? We would change the world!
But to change the world we first must allow God to change us, and one of the ways that happens is by learning more about our faith day by day.
Why not join us for the Biblical Walk Through the Mass on Sundays during Lent?
Your pastor,
Fr. Dwight Longenecker
